Neon Signs Directing Pedestrian Traffic at School

I was walking along a school hallway, and everyone was excited that they had installed new electric signs that would drop down from the roof and indicate when students should start and stop walking. This had been installed a while back but was finally activated. The signs had green neon wording to indicate the student could proceed forward. This is sort of like the gate at a parking garage, only the signs in this case flap down from the ceiling to tell you to stop, then turn green and ascend back up to allow you to pass. The problem was, when I would walk through, it would drop down and smack the guy in the face behind me as he tried to proceed along with me. He was tall and the signs were hanging at his face level. I thought to myself how inefficient the system was, but nobody else seemed to mind. They were still so excited about it and there was a lot of positive chatter about it. But to me, it really disrupted the flow of pedestrian traffic.
