Dead Palms and the Dog

My mother-in-law was on speaker phone with me and my wife. She was sadly telling us how all her palm trees died after our last visit. I remembered watering them while I was there and wondered if I was the reason they died. ——— I was spending the night at my grandma’s house with my wife and my dog, Bailey. My grandma wasn’t there; we were taking care of her house while she was gone. As we were hanging out in the living room, I heard a tapping sound on the sliding glass door that led out to the back deck. I nervously looked out at the dark empty deck and then saw a little scruffy dog staring at us through the glass. I then remembered that my grandma sometimes cares for strays as they wander to her house from the dense forest surrounding her home (this is true in real life). Chuckling, I thought this must be one of those strays. I opened the door and the dog was much bigger than I thought – a black lab-pit mix came prancing into the house. Bailey and the dog went off playing in the night. Suddenly I felt like I probably made a mistake and didn’t know what to do next. I woke up feeling exhausted.
