I was listening to two scientists talking in my grandparents' house about why the one hadn't been around that much. She said that she was researching barbiturates. Then the both of them started talking about how they're a deciduous fungi that lives in Maine or something. I stared thinking about how barbiturates sound like barbarians. It was utter nonsense. For the record, barbiturates are actually a class of drugs that affect the nervous system, not fungi; and deciduous refers to a kind of tree. I don't think that barbarians are related at all, because the name barbiturates comes from the chemical structure. And none of these things are confined to Maine.
