The scene opened with me walking down a steep, rocky hill and onto a white marble beach. As I walked towards the water, I had this sinking feeling that something was going to go wrong. But I also felt that I needed to bear witness to whatever was about to happen. In the water, I rolled over the waves and observed the other people swimming. Weirdly the beach was populated solely by the most ancient of elders—clustered about and mumbling to themselves— and youthful of children—playing freely. I felt like I had to protect those children. Suddenly I had the urge to look towards the horizon. I saw what at first looked like island mountains, looming in the distance. They were leviathan waves. I started swimming towards shore, grabbing every kid I could and shouting at the other people to get to high ground, but it was too late. The tsunami was fast approaching, and I was powerless. The beach flooded. Water crashed into the cliffside and rushed to fill all the fishers in the rocks. People were swallowed by the foaming, black sea. A child in each arm, I climbed up the rocky slopes in an effort to escape the flood. But the hills were too steep, and the children wriggled out of my grasp. I felt myself become part of the water. Slowly the sea rose up around me, and I looked up towards the sky.
