Subconscious speaking words

My mother was dating a man who did not like me and I also did not like him. We had a rivalry. However, we put this aside once because there was a dangerous animal and I wanted him to carry me so I couldn't be hurt by it. Suddenly I felt like I was a toddler again. He carried me on his hip, but the animal still jumped up and grabbed me. It didn't hurt me though, and he shook it off me. I don't know how but I suddenly realized I was dreaming. I think I knew I had to be dreaming since I was being treated like a child. I was very lucid at this point, and I was thinking about what my dream could mean while everything was unfolding. My mom was there, and while the man was carrying me she said "this is symbolic of your childlike need for security and protection." I contemplated this for a while, wondering how I was still childlike in waking life. My mom interpreted a few other things in the dream for me, but I can't remember what she said about them.
