Driving recklessly

I was driving and I hit the rear end of a car in front of me because I pulled out too fast. I was driving recklessly and speeding, but I couldn't stop. The cops called me and asked me if I were heading home. I asked, "who is this?" He said, "you need to come home as soon as you can." So I made my way home, even though I had been wanting to go to a bookstore. I was nervous. They told me they received a phone call that I had tried to run someone off the road. I explained to them what happened while trying to sound innocent and clueless. They were mocking me. When I got home they had been searching my house. They made a comment about how it's "hereditary", meaning I picked up my driving habits from my dad.
