So I was an intern at a local hospital. My job was to go and check in on patients and cater to their needs. I walked in on a lady who had been there a few days on the 4th floor. She asked if we could go on a walk so I prepped her walker and got her IV set. We started walking down the hall when she complained immediately that this walk was too much for her so we went back. While trying to get her back on the bed (she was a bit overweight), her IV slipped out and she started feeling faint. I helped her on the bed and she immediately fell asleep. I saw this as very alarming and tried to wake her to no avail. I called for a nurse but no one came. I ran to the nurses station but everyone was gone besides a security officer. He ran with me back to the patients room where he radioed for the nurses. Needless to say he was pissed they left an intern by herself to watch the patient. I had an epiphany and recalled the patients diabetes. I knew from the symptoms she was probably experiencing low blood sugar. I sent the officer to go get a sugary soda from the nutrition room.the patient stirred awake and I gave her a soda which improved her condition tenfold. I still hadn't put the IV back in her arm because I didn't know how however thankfully a nurse finally showed up. I gave her the IV and she popped it into the fatty part of this patients arm. Needless to say I was confused but thankful.
