Girl at the Beach

My mom, my sister, and I went to the beach for the first time this summer. It was overcast and the water was a bit chilly to swim. As I walked back to my towel, my sister and I came across this girl who was supposedly very friendly. She had light brown hair, was very fair skinned and had freckles of all sizes all over her body. She wore a white two piece and then put on a white crop top. She introduced herself to us, although I didn’t remember her name. She was asking us where we were from, and we told her we were right here in New Jersey. She was from Pennsylvania so I told her that my friend recently moved out there. I told her that I liked PA, she smiled, and then said that there’s really not much to do in her area. We found out her nationality, and that she was half Sicilian. She told us about her trip to Italy last summer for three weeks and how she went as a study abroad through her college. As I started to get to know this girl, I had a strong aversion towards her. I didn’t like her at all. She gravitated towards my sister and they were talking the whole time while we were at the beach. There was a table with an umbrella next to our towels, so the girl and my sister sat there. The girl took out her sketch pad and colored pencils and told my sister that she enjoyed drawing as a hobby. She gave my sister a sheet of paper and some colored pencils and taught her how to draw something. I deliberately watched them for a few seconds and then turned away toward my mom. I wanted to leave. I checked the time and it was 6:00, and I realized that I totally forgot I had to work today. I was beyond disappointed. Frantically, I was thinking of apologies to tell my clients as I pulled on my phone. Suddenly I was home and texted my clients for the day to let them know what happened.
