The Wishing Fish

I was on a boat in the middle of the ocean, we were collecting specimens for study. It was a particularly slow day, nothing was coming up in the net. After hours in the hot sun, I thought I saw something shimmer in the water. I dipped my hand into the sea, and a small blue fish nestled into my palm. When I scooped him up and placed him gently in a bucket, the team was in awe of what I had discovered. We’d never seen a fish quite like this. The creature peered up at us with puppy’s eyes and waggled his fin in salutation. And then he raised a sail from his back, flung himself into the air, and flew gracefully away.
