Turtle Flipper Repair

I lifted one of my turtles out of the tank but he grabbed into the rock with his big back flipper. I pulled harder, not too hard, and his flipper tore off. I hugged him close. He didn't seem to be in pain, but how can he swim without a back flipper? I felt so bad. I took his foot off the rock and squeezed him, praying, "Can I have a do-over? A DO-OVER!" It could happen. Maybe it would heal if I stuck it back on. It seemed to be made of rubber. I fitted the torn flipper back onto his stub and he bit my baby finger and wouldn't let go. But his flipper was moving, like the nerves were connecting. I got a roll of cloth bandage from the bathroom. It was a light brown, furry sheet, sticky on one side with a black, peel-off backing. It was old and decaying, and I had to peel off chunks with one hand, holding the turtle in the other, my baby finger stuck in his mouth. Poor guy. I wrapped his flipper, wondering if the bandage would hold against the weight of the water while he swam. It seemed to.
