Gioanni hints on Facebook that she has a big announcement to make. He next time I see her we're alone in the green room. As she walks out she casually drops, "Oh yeah, I'm pregnant. I'm having a baby." Apparently she's excited, and I'm not the first to hear the news. She uses the same informative tone, head nods, and nonverbal comms as when she tells people about how she's graduating, moving back home, and starting her nursing career. I process this, thinking she might have to take time off school, but no, she'll graduate first. (IRL she graduated this month.) It's also conveniently after her last Sunday at church and on the worship team, so she won't have to worry about church discipline. Then I think about the father. I haven't met the guy she's dating. (IRL I asked her out 3 months ago but she said she was interested in someone else.) My thoughts and feelings are a mix of jealousy and sadness that I'm not the father, surprise that this "innocent" 23-year-old worship leader is being so nonchalant about this announcement, and a well-wishing, letting go, "you do you, booboo" feeling.
