Transmission

I'm stopped, turning left across 2 lanes onto a country highway. I wait for an opening. I hit the gas, the engine revs, but my automatic transmission doesn't kick in, almost like it's in neutral, and I'm going really slow. I know the car coming up behind me is inconvenienced. But he can deal with it. I turn left around a corner in a neighborhood and find the driveway with the number I'm looking for, 500-something. It's also a big busy street, and I drive so fast I go past the driveway a bit, but I pull over on the left curb amd park.
