I initially remember being in a McDonald’s on a school trip (I’m 30, but was in school in this dream). I recall having said something to a friend of mine in the restaurant, only to realize later that it seemed rude. I turned to find her in order to apologize but, when I looked around, I noticed everyone had left the McDonald’s. The entire staff and student group had gotten on the bus and left. They had forgotten me in a small, far off town. After I calmed down from my initial panic, I began to look down the street to find a possibly nearby bank and motel. Luckily, before I had to leave the McDonald’s, a large police van (appeared more like a SWAT team van) pulled up next to me. They asked if I was the one who was left behind from the trip. Apparently, my absence was noticed and reported to the local authorities. There were two policewomen and three other lost kids of various ages in the van. I got into the van and, almost in an in instant, was dropped off at a sort of checkpoint. It was the home of a middle aged couple. Supposedly, they volunteered their household for lost children to spend nights in when they were too far from their homes to get back in one day. I recall spending some time inside. The couple was very nice, as were the few friends they had previously invited over. By nature, I am very timid and uneasy around strangers, so I kept mostly to myself. Luckily, they all understood and left me to myself. I went outside and into the front yard. The house was at the edge of a high cliff, overlooking the larger portion of the city lying at the base of a small mountain range. In the yard, I noticed a tall sand castle structure. Strangely enough, I instantly had this emotional bond created with what lived inside, despite never actually seeing them in the dream. There were tiny rabbits in there. They were more intelligent than average rabbits, though less than humans. Then, I had this memory instantly appear in my mind of a large bipedal rabbit, maybe a meter or so tall, that had intelligence matching that of humans. In my memory, he had dug up through the basement floor in the house I was currently staying. He had come to tell me he intended on returning to eat the rabbits in the castle, like always, and if I tried to stop him, he would attack me, too. I felt I had to stop him, with the bond I now somehow shared with the small rabbits. When the time came, I tried to protect the castle. Unfortunately, he noticed the women who partially owned the house outside, trying to grill some food. He turned towards her, threw lighter fluid on her and pushed her into the grill. Lit aflame, she was screaming in pain. I felt awful. While saving the small rabbits, I let the large rabbit kill the women kind enough to let me into her home. At this point, I used this old VCR remote I somehow had in my hand. By pressing the rewind button, I turned back time. Everything in began to quickly move backwards in time before my eyes. When I released the button, I was back to the point soon before the large rabbit arrived, able to remember all that had previously happened. So, with another chance, I tried to protect everyone. Unfortunately, once again, the larger rabbit outsmarted me. He blew the entire property up in a last resort to punish me. Burt and injured, I struggled to push the rewind button. Again, I was back where I began. This went on for a few times until I eventually awoke. *So, I never actually could save anyone. Of course, so long as I survived, I could have always kept trying if the dream had continued. Looking back on my dream, I see a lot of similarities shared with my favorite book, The Time Machine.*
