Loving someone no one likes

This isn’t something that actually happened, but the dream took me back to when I was a teenager living with my father. I met some girl who had a rough family who didn’t treat her well. Everyone didn’t like her and there were rumors that she was a slut, etc. She was a sweet girl, though and I quickly fell in love with her despite everyone disapproving of it.
