I lived in an apartment block downtown in some city that looked like New York. I shared a flat with my mother and our two dogs. Each night I would see the light from under my door turn black from movement on the other side. It terrified me. My mother didn't seem to notice. Often from my window I would see a creepy man, straggly blond hair, drawn face, and always in a long coat and hat. He would stare into our apartment, sometimes with binoculars. One night I dared to open the door and found him in the living room surprised to see me. I sprinted out the door down the stairs. The ground floor was a diner so I rushed in and found a nice looking black man and hurried him for his phone. I dialled the police but the creepy man was near by so I spoke quietly. The man found me and I pretended to talk to no one important. The crackled voice on the phone said "what's your emergency?" to which I had to say "there's an issue at this diner..." and gave the address. The voice got really mad accusing me of prank calling and hung up. The creepy man told me I couldn't stay here and escorted me and the black man called Mac out and headed to his apartment. One of my dogs must have ran out with me so he jumped into my arms. We reached his room. It was dirty, grimy and small. I could see a perfect view of all the rooms of my flat and grimaced. We were held hostage until nightfall once again. He nodded to my flat and told me to look. Club lights, purple and blue. A frat party in my flat suddenly. I used Mac's phone to film it. "No, what have you done?!" the man yelled, "now they'll know we're here!" Sure enough a bunch of ghost college guys appeared in the room. "Remind them of their living days" he told me. So I went around spouting college things to them to which they cheered and celebrated and eventually faded. Apparently that's not the evil presence in my flat however and I dreaded what had happened to my mother. I returned with my new team to see my mother making a fresh cake. We both smiled and hugged each other as the sun touched our skin. Tears started to slowly fall down my cheeks as I hear people in my mother's bedroom. The clicking of a camera, and the zip of a body bag. "Taste the cake hun," she said with a smile. I sniffled and raised a fork of cake to my lips. It tasted like rotting bread. I looked over to the man with the hat who just watched sadly. At least I still have her in death.
