Before bed, I set an alarm for around 4:00 AM. I woke up and couldn't get back to sleep for about an hour. But when I did, I began having lucid dreams. I'd be in my house, on the stairs, in someone else's house. I'd know I was dreaming, but every time I'd try to stabilize the dream, it'd collapse and I'd wake up. But each time this happened, I remained still, and slipped back into a dream instantly. The same thing would happen at least a half dozen times. Awake, asleep, awake, asleep. But I was conscious the entire time. One of the strangest feelings ever. I can see why some people take it to be an out of body experience. I certainly experienced two different worlds. The next phase of dreams weren't lucid, but I kept waking up. Something disappointing would happen in the dream, then I'd wake to find it wasn't real. Over and over. I'm also not sure if I really was waking each time, or if I had false awakenings, since I know I at least had one. It all sounds troubling, but it was actually a relaxing experience. A break from the normal constancy of the world.
