To the top

It was a society sort of like ancient Egypt with all the huge pyramids and stuff like that, but obviously a bit more fantasy because duh. There was one guy who felt drawn toward the top of the largest pyramid and knew he had to get up there. He was almost always accompanied by a guard because no one trusted him and you can bet they eventually got gay. He managed to sneak away and get to the top before his guard could find him again and he found an old worship site. Him just setting foot in the designated area was enough to light two huge pillars that had been dormant for a really long time, bringing some sort of power back to the city that they had lost. I'm not sure, it only kinda makes sense.
