It was so sweet, the young squirrel. Didn't bite. Would embrace my finger tight in its hands. I know wild animals can't be pets, but this little fellow seemed different. I brought it home to my kids who were toddlers. But I dropped it in its box. Only from my knees, but when I picked it up, I could feel its bottom rib was broken. It winced in pain but did not complain. My Dad said it would surely die, but I wanted to take it to a vet. Probably would cost all my money. My kids and I set out to the vet, the squirrel resting on my forearm. But there was a parade, a Dog Parade. The streets were lined 10 deep. We walked behind the crowd, ahead of the parade, but when we got to the vet the place was full. Couldn't even get in the door. But I pulled a video game emergency "explosion" thing and we were let in. The vet agreed the rib was broken, and was impressed by the squirrel's finger-holding trick. He was hopeful we could save him.
