Morning Video Game

Carpooling to work in the morning with Ben. Talking over new work policies. Having good conversation. Decide to stop for coffee. Debating between Dunkin and Starbucks. I realize we’re running late; it’s 0657 and work technically starts at 0645. We decide to grab coffee at work instead. I feel exhausted without my coffee. Driving up Main Street where I used to live. We see what looks like Dr. P in some sort of trench coat or bathrobe. The man is thick like a Russian doll. We comment on his build. At the top of the street we reach a dead-end by a fenced-in airfield. There was an entranceway on a pull-off we passed a minute prior. We turn around and park the car near the barbed wire fence. We sneak up to the fence line and see our target. Apparently we are here to take him out. We are figuring out where the guards are when we realize the target has trained animals he uses as an early detection system. Rabbits are running past us. The rabbits increase speed when they locate intruders, and now they are speeding past. We’ve been spotted! We leave our rifles at the fence line and slide down a steep ridge behind us. The two guards run toward the ridge trying to find the intruders. They are looking down the hill for us but it’s too steep and dark at the bottom to see us. I check the time and it’s 0711. I have to be at work by 0715. I decide we should rush up the hill and complete the mission. We run to our guns, take out the two guards and aim for the target. I start to shoot my gun at the target but accidentally hit Ben. It’s like a video game, he only takes damage. Ben kills the target. Mission complete. I high-five Ben. That mission was just a video game. We are late and I tell Ben to hurry and hide the fact we are late because we were playing games. We enter the nurses station through a mud room door. Jess and Mary are waiting to give report with pulse oximeter batteries charging in accordance to new policies. Jess and I joke about how great she is. Ryleigh asks about the weather. I tell her it has warmed up some. I tell her to drive home safe.
