I was trying to date but it wasn't going well. There was a girl I was a bit interested in, but it never went anyway. I kept searching for dates, I was determined to finally push myself out there. I finally remembered this girl at the comic book store, a girl who I recalled seemed interested, as I had bee, n but we both hadn't gone there. I headed back to the comic books store my dog in tow and tried to ask her out. We both were aware of our mutual interest but the awkward silences and shyness took over and it wasn't enough to prompt one of us to make a move. I ended up leaving without asking her out, even as she clearly wanted to but also made excuses. This church nearby was having a Halloween festival. The entire city block was covered in fog from some amazing fog machine. It even covered the land towards the horizon for miles. The dark night was lit up by their celebration inside fog and white light and chaotic music sounded. They had the best Halloween display and party on the block, maybe even in the entire city, and it was impressive to the town. More impressive was their effects. Godzilla roared his familiar godzilla noise and seemed to stop on the horizon. It was clear from the projectikn of him in their house it was coming from them but it seemed so real, like he was really stomping and headed this way. Even I wanted away from that area. Godzilla was cool and all but not when stomping near me. I went home, it was a new home. I had been living in another Victorian house down the street but I think I was adopted and I was now living in this ship house on the edge of the woods/park, on the edge of town. It was a nice house, the wooden ship looked like it had been sunk and was coming out the ground proudly victorious. But the inside was so dark. Never any lights. And there were other kids, teenagers. We go on okay. A blonde boy threw little balls of spit at me. I threw them back. They looked like tiny water balls, the size of marbles. I tried to eat and feel at ease but I was busy studying something. My new place here was because of a specific interest. I eventually took my book, or rather my newspaper outside. Me and my dog walk to the entrance to the woods/park. It was a long paved mini road where people had set up park benches and every old person in town was there catching the sun. The inside of the house had been so cold I had left partly to get warmed up. We walk down until I recognize someone at the next to the last bench, and she invited me to sit as there aren't any other places left. I sit but we aren't sitting together she's across from me minding her own business. I read my newspaper. My new adoptive parents arrive. They are like Morticia and Gomez Addams. Dressed to impress despite being in the woods/park. Apparently they are so impressed with my manners and responsibility they bring me the baby to watch. It's a kitten baby and they bring its leash and harness. I shift Wormwood over to my right side and I leave the baby kitten on the ground acting like a little ferocious monster cause it doesn't like wearing the harness. I change its leash once, I had a spare harness with me. The adoptive parents also leave me with a seed, an important responsibility and a gift, to make me feel more at home wherever I go. I plant the seed across from me in the more wooded area and I am aware of it as it grows underground, like I can actually see it. It's a ship, the same house ship, except this one feels brand new and more mine. Now I have a home wherever I go. I don't have to worry about feeling left out or homeless or abandoned. This ship is growing from trees roots in the dirt, underneath the ship is incubated and will one day sprout and pop out fully grown ship house. I am so excited and relieved.
