The girls fall

I had many dreams last night but the one I remember was at a high school. I was there as an adult at a kind of open day. I was seated at an outdoor table in a red brick courtyard. There were many tables about with seated families and other people around. I looked up above the courtyard and a row of girls were, one closely behind each other, walking out on to a metal beam high above the yard. They were confident. People, including many children, were watching as it was a kind of demonstration of prowess. It started well but then the girl at the front lost her balance and wobbled from side to side struggling to regain her equilibrium. The girls were all so close together that the others behind began to falter too. One girl fell first, the second one in the line. She fell to the side - falling and flipping over to land hard on her back on the bricks below. I ran to girl that had fallen as she was near me. She was wearing a green jumper. As I ran to her, the other three girls began to fall, some clung desperately on to the beam, but they couldn’t hold on and they all fell to the ground. It was horrific, shocking. The girl I ran to was conscious but not speaking. She went to sit up but I told her to lie down and keep still until the ambulance came. Only it didn’t come. The school principal refused to make the call. I kept saying to the principal that the girls needed an ambulance, but still she refused. I then insisted the girls have blankets as they would go into shock. Begrudgingly the principal handed out blankets. People were trying to care for the girls until help arrived. Eventually ambulances must have come but I don’t recall being there when that happened. I just recall being there after everyone had gone and going up near where the now empty beam jutted out, and looking at it kind of awestruck.
