Dog eats hot sauce

A combination of both my current living dogs was standing on my kitchen counter. He was small in size like our pug/dachshund mix but had the black and brown color of our Rottweiler. I gave him some food product that was maybe chicken. It had some sort of hot bbq sauce on it. He jumped off the counter and paced around a bit. I thought it may have burned his mouth and directed him toward his water bowl. He did not drink before i woke.
