Dream: Murders

Last night I dreamt I was in the middle of a murder mystery. Our town was being quarantined, so to speak, until the killer was caught. I was inside the house of one of my best friends. There were about five of us left in there. My name was not the same as it is in real life but I honestly can’t remember what my name was.     My best friend, Char, was pacing in the front room back and forth. She was accusing this guy, Michael, for the murders. He and I were sitting on the couch. She said she had evidence against him and was going to prove it. Char’s brother Skylar was on the couch with us and the other person in the house was Char’s boyfriend Kail. He had gone off to one of the bathrooms to puke up. We had just found his twin brother carved up a couple hours before. Char left us in the front room and headed off through the house towards where Kail was.     “Don’t worry Michael. I know it isn’t you.” I whispered to him.     Skylar, who was one of Michael’s friends, nodded to him in agreement with me. See, we both knew that Michael and Char had never been on good terms. Mainly because Char never gave him a chance. Not only that, but Skylar and I could tell that Michael was one of the ones most tortured by these events. His parents and baby sister were killed.     “Do you have any proof that I’m not?” Michael asked me. His eyes were piercing through mine, as if he needed the reassurance.     I smiled and put his hand over my heart. “Right here. I know it sounds crazy but my heart tells me that it wasn’t you. It hasn’t betrayed me yet.”     Michael moved his hand I had placed on my heart and ran it over my cheek. “You’re too kind for your own good.”     “We all keep trying to tell her that.” Skylar told him.     Michael smiled a little now. Only for a moment. He then leaned forward and held out both hands. “Do you know the difference between pigeons and doves?” he asked.     I think the idea came from the collection of dove statues inside Char’s house. It was a hobby of her mother’s.     “Doves are love birds and pigeons are obnoxious?” I asked him in a joking manner.     He didn’t smile. “True. Pigeons, carrier pigeons mainly, can be sent all around the world and always find their way home. They always come back.”     The emphasis on 'always- put an edge in the air and I was beginning to think I knew what was going on.     “Char.” I whispered, eyes widening.     The three of us ran towards the bathroom as a blood-curdling scream erupted from Char. We, lucky for her, just barely made it. We grabbed her and shut the door on the killer. Sadly we didn’t make it there in time to save Kail.     The four of us quickly got out to the suv and drove off. As we drove off, I don’t know how but, somehow we got out of the quarantine and we just kept driving till we got to the other side of the country.     “I knew it wasn’t you Michael.” I whispered to him.     He and I were sitting in the back, making sure we weren’t being followed. Skylar was up front with Char and was trying to keep her somewhat sane.     “Thank you.” was all Michael could say before I woke up.
