I remember very little. It was homecoming at my university,. My friends and I were excitedly on our way downtown to go the bars and then to go enjoy all the events on campus. Normally, we don’t drive through campus, but the driver, my friend and boyfriend’s roommate, Savannah, was driving and decided she wanted to see a bit of the homecoming parade. It was nighttime, there were people wandering around in small groups whether they be drunk undergrads or families wanting to see the parade. We were coming around a curve and rather fast. I saw him before anyone else. It was my high school chemistry teacher. I hadn’t been fond of him, but his wife had also been my theatre teacher and I loved her. They’d just had a baby (in real life this child would be about 6 now) but in my dream she was a newborn. He was walking across the dim light road carrying her against himself. She was wrapped in a white blanket so I couldn’t see her but I knew it was their daughter. He saw the car coming and froze in the street, clutching the babe and staring at us in wide-eyed horror. I screamed at Savannah to stop, as did everyone else in the car, but she didn’t even slow down. She wasn’t trying to hit them, but she couldn’t seem to slow down, as if she was too afraid and forgot how to drive. We hit them, and she kept driving. None of us dared to look back but we could hear screaming. Savannah panicked and kept driving, trying to get away before the cops arrived. I was horrified and felt sick. I fainted and when I came to it was the next day, the festivities of homecoming proceeded as normal, but everyone was talking about the hit and run. They mentioned how the teacher had survived but was in the hospital, but no one mentioned how the child was doing and all I could think was: “What if we killed her?” I awoke shortly after the football players started their march to the field to play.
