Left behind in a storm - a symbolic dream that may have helped

The first scene of the dream I was shown an arial view of a small country town that was in the middle of a terrible wind and rain storm. Lots of flooding was going on. The scene changed and I was in a medium size house with several other dream figures. The d.f.’s were in different rooms of the house. The room I was in had about four or five d.f.’s we were discussing the storm when suddenly a d.f. came into the room from just being outside in the storm. He told everyone that the town was deserted that everybody left because of the storm. We then began discussing plans to leave also. There was an older male d.f. sitting on a chair in the middle of the room who said he didn’t want to leave. In the dream I understood that this d.f. was the town doctor for many years. He was very old and not well. One of the other d.f.’s said that this doctor had been sitting in this chair for at least twelve hours and when he did stand up that he could hardly walk. The doctor d.f. then got annoyed and said that he’s not leaving because even if he did leave that the storm would still be there (in the dream it felt that this statement was meant to be a deep insight of some sort). Another d.f. said that if we left now we could always come back to when the storm was over. So we discussed the situation further. Someone came up with a plan to have to able men take all the women and children with them and leave the town and the rest of us would remain. The dream then faded and I awoke. Trying to analysis this dream for myself and what it meant, I don’t think it actually means me physically moving out of my house. I feel my subconscious is telling me the storm represents certain issues I’m having in waking life and which I’m struggling with. The doctor d.f. might be viewed as my higher power saying not to run away from these issues but to stick it out and not be fearful of them. After all, in the dream this d.f. was the older doctor of the town, which my subconscious came up with to represent a healer with wisdom. Older people are thought to have wisdom in critical situations. I think the town represents my past and present life where the house represent my self. I believe dream symbols that the subconscious comes up with, represent your self and what your perception is of your waking life, past and present. I believe the subconscious comes up with these different symbols to allow our dream world to help us resolve our inner conflicts of waking life. Not always but very often the symbols are very bizarre and don’t seem to relate at all to our waking life. I think happens for two reasons: first the subconscious cannot use logic as we think of logic and comes up with symbols as it perceives our waking life; second if the symbols were not so bizarre and closer to our actual waking life’s perception the potential deeper healing aspect would be lost. In other words - the only true healing that is going on in our lives is of the healing of the mind.
