Recon patrol

Okay. So this dream is going to chop and change around a lot so I'll explain it as best I can. I was conducting a military planning exercise and was one of the lead planners for a mission. The enemy in this case was a reconnaisance platoon commander (an old colleague of mine) planning against me. The plans ran on a computer simulation. I don't remember much of the simulation itself, but after we went into a debrief (AKA after action review). The enemy commander began to explain how he had manouevre his forces to bypass us completely to the west to get into an Observation Post (OP) to observe some tanks to the North and Armoured Fighing Vehicles (AFV) to the East. All of a sudden, while the enemey commander was explaining his plan on the map, I was sucked into it and took control of a reconnaisance (recon) sniper as part of a sniper pair in the previously mentioned OP. Roles were now reversed and I was now the enemy I had planned against. I was controlling this guy in a semi first person and semi third person view - it kept changing between the two. It kind of reminded me of a video game. I remember thinking that I had an RV to make, but if I moved the tanks in front of me that I was observing would surely see me. They were modern tanks (Abrams or T-90s). I gritted my teeth and started running, attempting to squirt right into some woods to avoid the tanks. Sure enough, the tanks saw me and began firing at me with machine guns. I sprinted harder to make the woods. I remember looking back and seeing the closest tank traverse its main armament (A 120mm smooth bore death pipe) towards me. I was tereified. I kept running into the woods in order the avoid the steel murder machines. I don't remember if it fired it's main armament or not, but I definitely wasn't hanging around any longer. I had broken contact and wanted to keep it that way. I kept running. To my surprise and horror, I ran directly into the mechanised infantry platoon in the AFVs previously mentioned. They knew I was coming and began peppering me with all sorts of fire as soon as I bumped into them. I was done for. But the dream didnt end there. I was sucked over to another location, but it was the same general area of operations (ie same terrain etc.) Again, I was controlling a sniper and had a mission to observe a town for enemy activity that was on the otherside of a rather large hill in front of me. I began patrolling with my partner (still part of a sniper pair) towards my objective. Right before I got the crest of the hill, I got on my guts and began crawling slowly to get into position. Progress was slow, but I felt like a predator stalking it's prey. Finally we were in a position to observe the whole town below - and it was crawling with enemy. After the while, the enemy seemed to clue on that we were nearby. Search parties fanned out in all directions in search for us. I remember staying perfectly still in my spot, blending in perfectly with the earth. My buddy was doing the same. I watched a patrol of no less the 8 or 9 enemy soldiers make their way up the hill towards us. They were searching the grass and trees for us. It was only a matter of time before they stumbled upon us. Running was definitely out of the question now - they were about 20m away and too close to break contact. We hadn't been discovered yet. I aimed my rifle at the closest enemy. The crosshairs of my scope lay directly on his neck thinking that if I snatch my shot, at least I'll still hit him in the head or chest. He was 10m away now. I slowly flicked the safety switch to "fire". There was an audible click. He heard it and froze. Then my alarm went off :(
