The Great Wall

Our group of students managed to deceive our way on to a tour bus going to the Great Wall of China. The ride was all uphill and didn’t seem to coordinate with the view seen through the wind shield. We would appear to run through cliffs just to appear back on the road again. Sometimes we would be hanging over a cliff side while still continuing to be level with the road. Other times the road would end and our bus would simply appear onto a new road. When we finally arrived, the air was muggy and we were surrounded by enormous mountains. Along the mountain ridges, ran the Great Wall. Overwhelmed by the height and the view I fell down to the ground and wondered what had driven so many people to die building this structure. Why so many slaves kept on trying to live instead of simply killing themselves. I realized that I didn’t understand life at all. There were so many questions I had. So much I didn’t understand. I was frustrated and overwhelmed and oddly at peace. I woke up
