Forged

I am driving with my mother when she gets a text from my father. I ask what happened. She says that he discovered that a letter from his childhood, saved by his sister, was found to be a forgery. The letter says that my father had to miss school (in the 1960s) because he had been spending time with a band. The expert knew it was a forgery because the language was very modern, using terms that would not have been used then (like upper case Black). He’s disappointed, because the letter was from a semi-popular band. Layer, the three of us are sitting in his living room. I explain the dream to him, aware that it was a dream. He laughs and tells me of one of his dreams. I know that he is dead, but I’m happy to know he’s still having dreams. We start to talk about sleep. I mention that I have a sleep app that records audio (true). Most of my night talking is telling my cats that they’re nice and apologizing for waking them (true), but sometimes it’s incoherent speech sounds. I tell my mother (also dead) that I take after her and have been snoring. We try to guess when that started. It’s nice to see my parents again, even if only in a dream. I miss them both.
