It was the beginning of the world, and I was one of a small band of humans walking the earth. There was no dry ground. Little but endless ocean with snow and ice covering everything, but it was not cold to us as it was all we had ever known. We stuck to a maze-like series of sandbars on which we walked and lived only half emerged in the water, and slept on and partly covered by the larger snowdrifts which kept us comfortable and insulated. I had my toddler daughter with me, and had literally carried her for her entire life for fear she would not know to stay to the sandbars and would drown. I took her with me and showed her the wonders of our world and the beauty that surrounded us; but then I realized that I had to let her go and trust in her abilities. I released her, and she thrived and grew and was free and safe.
