Italian Beaches

I just got back to the states about a week ago from living in Rome, Italy for a semester while studying abroad. It was fairly cold out so I never made the trip out to the beaches as I wanted to. So I dreamed last night that I was in a taxi and we were passing by a beach and I jumped out of the taxi and started walking towards the entrance. As I started walking I took my shoes off and I remember feeling the grains of sand on my feet and really examining the beauty of it all. I remember that I was standing there looking at the water and saying to my myself, "I know this isn't real, am I in a dream?" But for some reason I cannot go lucid. Similar occurrences have happened before. Any ideas of why I can't make the transition?
