I worked at some small office building that had a front door and a side door. This was a relatively new job. I had one coworker, a shy older woman who I barely knew. It was very late at night, around 11 PM, and my parents were visiting me for some reason. They both left separately right around the time where some food I ordered on Uber Eats was supposed to get there. I looked at the tracking and realized that the location they’d be arriving to was actually down the street. I hurried out the side door and ran through some woods until I got to the street which was actually pretty busy with other cars and pedestrians. It was also snowing. The next car I saw I knew it was the driver and he saw me too. He pulled close to me and when he tried to pull over, he was going too fast and the back of his car slid out in the snow. While the car was out of control it swung into a woman walking on the sidewalk. It had almost come to a stop at that point so when it hit her it was only a bump. As the man got out of the car with the paper bag containing my order, the woman was screaming at him, “YOU JUST HIT ME WITH YOUR CAR ASSHOLE. WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?” and he pretty much ignored her, said something quietly to me in broken English while handing me my bag, then got back in his car. The woman continued, “CAN YOU NOT TALK?? CAN YOU NOT TALK??” I headed back into the office, noticing that I had accidentally ordered two of the same cheesecake instead of just one. I thought it must have been because I just pressed Reorder on my last order without checking it, and my last order was for both me and my boyfriend. I also felt bad for that guy who probably barely knew English, but then decided he could have done more and he probably was the asshole in that situation. I got back into the office via the side door and put my food on the table in the main room. My coworker was muttering “Can you not talk? Can you not talk?” I asked, “Oh wow you heard that all the way from here?” Then someone was absolutely POUNDING on the front door of our office. The door was very narrow and the rest of the doorway had textured glass that you could still see through though it made everything distorted. My coworker stood right at the door. “Open the door!! There’s mail out here for you!!” he yelled as he pounded on the door. “Let me in I’ve got your mail!!” My coworker and I exchanged looks of confusion and dismay. The tone of his voice alone indicated this man was either psychologically disturbed, on drugs, or both. Basically he sounded unhinged. Plus he couldn’t have been a postal worker because it was past 11 PM at that point. We silently agreed we obviously wouldn’t let this man in. I wanted to go lock the side door but he continued. “What, you won’t let me in just because I have a gun??” he yelled. I now saw through the glass he had a gun in his hand. Since he could see into our office I now crouched behind the small round table but it wasn’t a good hiding spot, he could still see me. My coworker was still at the door. We are terrified. He runs to the side and gets in through the other door. He approaches my coworker first, grabs her, holds her up against the wall, and starts jamming things into her throat— two different kinds of screwdrivers. She is screaming and the screwdrivers are sticking out of her neck. Blood is pouring down her body. I’m still crouched under this table, now knowing my coworker will die. I think his preoccupation with her is a good enough distraction for me to find a better hiding spot, so I get out from under the table and run to a counter that’s by the front door. He immediately sees me, and kind of chases me into the second/side room. He is going to kill me but I now decide to use his unhinged/illogical mind as a tactic. I tell him I won’t run or hide, that I am just gonna undress for him in this room and come back so that he could kill me better. He agrees and goes to the other room. I quickly but quietly put my keys in my sweatpants pocket and then run out the door, making sure it is locked behind me. I remembered earlier I had moved my car from the woods to right next to the building. I got in and quickly drove away. I drove for hours and hours, maybe half a day, I was in an entirely different part of the country. I approached a tunnel where there was some traffic and I started panicking, thinking if I ever stopped he could be able to get me.
