The Lottery

My aunt and I end up lost in a small town while looking for our way home. For whatever reason, instead of just searching up directions on one of our phones, we ask for directions from some house full of people. It turns out that they are doing “the lottery” from the short story at that house, where a drawing of slips of paper determines who will be killed each year. For some reason they decide my aunt and I should participate even though we aren’t citizens of the town. Obviously not wanting to participate, my Aunt and I begin looking for opportunities to escape. I find one when she happens to have a conversation with someone by the front door. I grabbed her and told the other person we were going for a walk. Instead we got in the car to leave. As we backed out of the driveway, I saw the girl my aunt was chatting with go to get the lady in charge of the lottery through the window and told my aunt to hurry. As we left another car began tailing us, so my aunt drove around trying to lose them while I frantically began looking up directions home on my phone, which somehow was at 1%. It was here that I woke up.
