Surprising Murder Mystery

I had this weird dream, and the entire time I felt extreme deja-vu, almost like I’d dreamt it before... or at least had a dream in the same place. I felt like I knew what was happening, kind of like when you’re replaying a scene in a video game and you think, “oh, this already happened.” Anyways, in the dream me and my cousin were at this old, run-down factory type place. We were kind of freaked out because something had happened there, but that’s all we knew. We went around the building instead of going through because everyone knows going inside of the scary building with no electricity is how you die in a horror movie and I didn’t wanna be That Dumbass. We looped around the side, squeezing between the crumbling bricks and the metal fence right next to the building, and got around to this one weird area. It had a few old, rusted cars parked in the back, however the cars looked pretty modern- there was a 2019 corvette for sure, yet somehow it looked extremely aged. Blocking the path to our exit was a medium-sized in ground pool. We were fully clothed and the pool was filthy, but we had no other choice. My cousin went first and got through quickly, but I had the clumsiness and awkwardness that you always get in dreams, especially in nightmares- I couldn’t seem to do anything right. Now that I’m thinking back on it I’m once again reminded of a videogame; when I was wading through the just-above-my-head deep pool, it felt like I was playing a new game where I didn’t know any of the controls. When I went under the water I could see decently well, and that’s when I really started freaking out. The water was green and disgusting looking from the top, but underneath of the gunk I could see what was really in the pool: deadly eels, massive piranhas, floating pieces of sharp metal trash, sea urchins and more. I moved even faster, trying to get to the edge, and my cousin was saying something like “come on, just grab the side and pull yourself up. Hurry up, we’ve gotta get out of here.” For a split second I wondered why she was so calm, and how she came out of the messy pool with nothing on her, but then I realized I had more to worry about. I was trying but it wasn’t as easy, I was clumsy with fear or maybe just with the dreamlike nightmarish-feeling every person has when asleep, and every time I grabbed for the side of the pool my arms went limp and I either slipped off or just plain missed the side altogether. I could see the scary things in the pool swimming all about me and I knew I’d freak if an eel touched my foot or leg. I swam closer to the edge but my legs were like lead and didn’t want to cooperate. After a few minutes of intense struggle I managed to get a grip on the side and shakily pull myself from the water. I wasn’t very cold because I had the adrenaline flowing through me, and mainly I was relieved that I had gotten out of that mess. Surprisingly I didn’t have any gunk on me, and I wasn’t even wet despite the fact that I’d just gotten out of the pool. Even my hair was dry. My cousin and I continued on past the pool and we came out into this wide, empty circular field. In the center of the circle were two mounds of dirt, each marked with a little stone on top. When I got closer to the stone my stomach dropped. The stones said my cousin’s name, and my own name. I looked at my cousin and she seemed just as surprised as me. Again, I felt this overwhelming sense of deja-vu, the same as I’d felt throughout the entire dream but stronger. My cousin said, “you don’t see it because you don’t want to. Open. Your. Eye!” and then she grabbed my head, pushed her thumb into my forehead and shoved my face down towards the mound of dirt marked with my name. I screamed and struggled but she’s so much stronger than me that it was no use, my head was slammed into the ground... Except as soon as I felt the impact I felt this whoosh of freezing air and my vision went white. I opened my eyes and I was kneeling on my grave, and then I remembered what happened. My cousin and I had been at the ‘factory,’ which was actually our old church. We’d ended up getting lost, and we wandered into the woods behind the building to look for help. We were shot and killed by a farmer who’s property we were trespassing, and his wife buried us in the clearing. I was still alive when she buried me, tears streaming down her face over pursed lips. She was silent. I tried to ask her for help but it felt impossible to breathe, and my head hurt and was ringing really bad so I couldn’t hear if I even said anything, but I’m pretty sure all that came out was a struggled exhale. She looked down at me with a kindly face and whispered, “I’m sorry, child. Sleep.” and with her forefinger and thumb she closed my eyelids. I was still awake but I couldn’t lift my eyelids after she closed them; I was at her mercy. I felt myself lifted into a hole, and then little pricks sprinkled all over my body as dirt rained down on me. It felt rough on my skin. Slowly, I was buried alive, and my mind got foggier and foggier because I couldn’t even muster up the energy to be scared. I vaguely wondered what would happen next. Dirt started to get heavier and more of it clumped down on my legs, and neck. Eventually it covered my mouth and I started to choke, tasting dry dirt and manure. More flew down on my face, thrown without any gentleness, and it felt like getting hit with a rock. I started choking, the dirt went right down my windpipe because I had basically lost control of my entire body. Before the light from behind my eyelids could fade, I died. I don’t know if my cousin had been killed more mercifully than me, or if she had suffered the same way, but we were both there as ghosts or something. Then the dream ended.
