I was a young woman named Corinna Vangaurd. Most just calling me Rin. I was on a trip with some friends of mine. Not one of us was what you might call… normal. I could manipulate someone with my voice and eyes if I chose to. I rarely did though. I also could be used as a conduit and take in things like electricity, energy shockwaves, and the like so as to lessen the blow on others. I'm not sure my friends have caught onto that yet. Carmen, a young man who was about 6 foot in height, could regrow any part of him that got cut off. Even the head. He's shown us. Alexander, Lex as we called him, could alter his genetic coding to make himself more animalistic when needed. Like when we went hunting on the weekends. Mauve could make and manipulate fire. She typically used this in small doses for convenience. Like campfires or literally burning those who mistreat those she cares about. Then there was Vincent. He was practically a hardwired ball of energy. He could make and manipulate electricity, lightning, and similar things but it kept him tense as he didn't want to hurt anyone with it. We were all on a trip to some town we'd never heard of before. All because of a letter I had received. A letter requesting I come home. Yet I knew nothing of this place that it called my home. See… I had come from across the seas. I had escaped on a ship in the dead of night. Getting away from my mother who had forced me to use my abilities to harm others. Those memories are the reason I rarely use my abilities now. "Rin, you sure you'll be okay going to this place?" Lex asked and I just shrugged. Vincent placed a hand on my shoulder, I could feel the buzz of electricity below the surface. I gave an awkward smile, "The only family alive that I know of is the same family I ran away from. My mother. Last I knew she was still in our old home in that country." "Then who could be out here?" Carmen asked me. I shook my head, "I don't really know." We stopped at a gas station and filled up. We'd been travelling a bit in Vincent's van. He'd gotten it specially made so his electricity never did any damage. We were asking about a hotel nearby from the guy at the counter when I heard a phrase I hadn't heard since I was a kid. "Safe water. Free water." My knees buckled and I dropped to the floor. Vincent knelt beside me as Carmen paid the man. Vincent carried me out to the van as we tried to get out of the area. I remember blacking out. I know we made it to a hotel because I woke up in the hotel room. Only to see a face that felt like I was staring in a mirror. An impossibility. I scooted back on the bed to see Vincent cuffed to me with duct tape over his mouth. The others in our group were knocked out and badly hurt. There was some thug with my doppelganger. He wasn't a big brute but I could tell he was inhuman too. "How? Who are you?" I whispered as I grasped Vincent's hand that was cuffed to me. "Elaina. Your sister. The person you abandoned all those years ago." My doppelganger stated. "I was forced to watch Elaina die. Her death was the reason I ran. You're an imposter." I snapped at her. "Yet I know all the cues to make you cooperate. Just like that woman did. The one you once called mother." The doppelganger told me. "Safe water. Free water. Crimson turn." She said in a quiet, singing voice. I felt my insides turn as Vincent squeezed my hand. A buzz of electricity burst through me. I assumed it his way to keep me from slipping into her game. I don't remember what happened next. All I know is I was waking in a room on my own. No more cuffs. Just pain. Lots of agonizing pain. I crawled out the bed and found myself nude. I scavenged and found some clothes that would fit. Looking in the room's mirror, I saw bruises on my arms, chest, and legs, and I had a black eye. I must have fought against whoever had brought me here. Once fully changed I headed out. I had grabbed a candlestick from the room for a choice in weapon. I needed to find my friends. The building was huge and had many hallways. I kept as quiet as I could. Opening and shutting doors to try and find people. The first one I found was Lex. He had taken on fox-like features with his ears, nails (now claws), and eyes. He certainly was attempting to stay calm despite seeming more freaked out than I was. "Do you know where the others are?" I whispered. "I can probably sniff them out." Lex stated before leading the way. We found Carmen next. He had his fingers chopped off and was slowly working on throwing them. As well as one foot. We helped him hobble out of the room. After that it was a slow descent down to the main floor of this building. Lex stated Mauve and Vincent were closer. We opened a door to see the thug from before sending electrical charges into Vincent's body, him strapped down to some kind of table, while Mauve lay unconscious on the floor. I leaned Carmen onto Lex and took off towards the thug. Practically body slamming him to the ground. The thug just laughed as I took his electric rod and shut it off, tossing it to Lex. My eyes gained a bright glow, "Tell me what happened. Tell me where she is." The thug stopped laughing and seemed to try and fight the mind control for a moment. He gulped and whispered, "Overloaded… girl. Try to… overload guy. She… she's gone…" I growled and then told him, "you're gonna go to sleep for a few hours." He just nodded and fell asleep. I got off him. I looked to Lex and deactivated my ability. "Check Mauve. I won't get hurt checking Vincent." He nodded and hobbled Carmen over. Carmen checked Mauve while Lex stood watch with the electric rod. I went to Vincent's side. Electricity was buzzing chaotically across him. He watched me with terror in his eyes as I stood by his side. I began undoing the straps, making sure I was keeping calm near the electric chaos around him. "I'll… hurt you…" Vincent said through gritted teeth. I shook my head and placed a hand on his. Electricity buzzed from him and into me. I held my ground and shot it down into the ground, making sure it went nowhere near our friends. "I can redirect it. You won't hurt me." I whispered as surprise crossed his features. "You'll abandon your own sister but help your friends. You really are a wretched sister." The doppelganger said from behind me. "You aren't my sister. A shifter, maybe. But my sister was decapitated before my own eyes. By my mother. My father forcing me to watch the horror. So don't act like you know anything about me." I snapped at her as I turned to face her. Vincent squeezed my hand and I pulled some of his electricity. I held my free hand out in front of me. "Now let us pass and never come near any of us ever again." She grinned a wicked, evil grin. I felt the buzzing rush of electricity make its way into my hand. ((I awoke after that.))
