Failed Lucid Dream

So I have never had a lucid dream before but I have always tried to have one. Last night I kept waking up and then going back to sleep. One of my dreams I just stopped and was like, am I dreaming? And then I knew I was. So I calmed myself down and didn’t get excited like I read to do. Then SOMEHOW my dream changed and convinced me that I had woken up from my dream... but I was still dreaming. So I just had the rest of the dream like normal. I think I’m just really stupid.
