A dark soul

I'm in a Dark Souls like setting, but with a group rather than on my own. It's a very dark forest, not super dense with trees though, just the ground is composed of dark dirt, tree bark is almost black, etc.. It's probably enshrouded in permanent night or something too. One of the group, the only one who appears to be a child (maybe 16 or so), is communicating with a tall and thin tree creature. The conversation seems to go well and he gets two items, which appear in my vision in a list at the bottom, a la Dark Souls. There is building conflict in the group; some are getting frustrated by our lack of progress. One member tries to reassure everyone that we can get what we need if we just communicate our needs clearly, doing something to trigger the younger one to get the same items from the tree creature again. The kid is excited by this and says, "oh sweet!" just before another of the group, a tough, older guy says, "is that all it takes?" and stabs a shorter, squatter tree creature (they're treants, I guess) with some sort of enchanted dagger, killing it instantly. The treant had been helping us around the forest, but was slow, and hard to understand. I immediately shove him to the ground, grabbing his knife and pushing it hard against his throat. He knows I won't kill him (I'm too pacifistic), but he recognizes the threat. He says something and I realize that for this conflict to be resolved, he will try to kill me some day. I get up and whip the dagger down into the earth next to him (secretly a little disappointed that it didn't stab through him instead) and brusquely walk away. Some time in the future, our group is in a building, maybe our headquarters or something. It's kind of Sonic Adventure 2 like in its design. I'm running along its halls when I pass the man going down the stairs. I jump over him, staying near the wall, but he grabs my leg, smiling a very concerning smile. I shake loose and enter a small open room a little down the stairs. It gets a bit confusing here: I think I have a smart phone that I'm watching some people in a library on, but they're also looking at some thing on my side. I dunno, but the dream ends about there.
