Strangers at a dinner

In a food court in a mall, me and Kartick are having dinner. We ordered some chicken roll or something and Kartick being a vegetarian was picking the chicken and discarding it and having the rest. I was having mine. Then a family, well dressed and all came up and asked if their child can have a bite too. I found it odd bec they didn't look like beggars and said go ahead. After trying a few times the father couldn't get the child interested in the meal and left
