I has recently moved to SoCal from out of town and I was visiting Unitarian Universalist Churches with my family. I visited what I think was UUCA and there I heard intimations that there were problems at one of the larger congregations. Visiting another larger congregation, I heard rumors of the same, possibly involving Scientologists. So We went to the third church to see how it was and it was clearly in crisis. The building was in disrepair. There were bugs and vermin. Things were tense during the service. Then there was a sort of Town Hall type meeting lead by a Scientologist. Church members were supposed talk about their misgivings about Scientology. Each person spoke then they were supposed to leave one by one. But then there was an exit X-ray machine they had to go through. They were lined up to leave waiting for the X-ray machine. The line was moving slowly. Those waiting were depressed and dejected. Some were sitting at a table with their heads down. I asked one of them if I could talk to a board member. She indicated somehow that she was one, but she was too depressed to talk to me.
