Island Bonding

This is a transfer of what I wrote down about a dream back on 12/1/19 when I realized it would make a really interesting story if I developed it a little further. The things I wrote down, in bullet points: * A noble & a commoner were somehow spirited away & trapped on an island together * The noble was a tall guy w/ long, silky black hair & a very stoic expression -- it rarely changed, even when things that should have been emotional happened to him * The commoner was an average height guy w/ short, messy brown hair & a very expressive face he was fairly skilled at controlling when needed * The island was some kind of... ancient/magical ruin? Or dungeon? I don't actually remember whether there were other sentient living beings, but for the story I'll say there were spirits & magical creatures & puzzles they had to solve. Or maybe solving the puzzles was just what they did to pass the time? * As they made progress toward getting off the island, Commoner realized he was falling in love w/ Noble * They eventually made it back home, somehow... I think maybe an extra big spirit or some kind of god showed up to tell them they'd made it through & transport them to the main continent/settled islands/wherever they lived originally? * Commoner continued to practice the magic he'd learned, & now had some kind of spell book * Commoner's childhood best friends welcomed him home & hung out w/ him * One friend was a girl w/ brown hair that she wore in low, short pigtails & a very expressive face that was usually very happy or angry -- but she knew how to be solemn when needed, since I think she was some kind of mage or priestess or researcher or smth * The other friend was a boy w/ generic brown hair & a friendly face & an indecisive nature that meant he was good at talking as a counselor but wouldn't be much help to anyone beyond that * Priestess & Counselor noticed that Commoner was getting called to/getting visits from Noble for reasons I can't remember -- I think it might've been abt new magic the pair had learned together or abt spirit things that they now knew how to deal w/ after their time on the island or smth similar; whatever it was, nobody would call the reasons affection or leisurely time w/ a crush/lover, least of all Commoner himself * The trio of friends sat together on a huge, twisted, mossy log in front of a waterfall & a ways up beyond the canopy of the forest that was apparently close to the common ppl's part of town or smth * They talked there often, esp abt Commoner's experiences & his "hopeless" love for Noble * As they were at a lull in one particular counseling session, Noble showed up & mentioned that he had a place he wanted to go bc it had some kind of magic frog he wanted to either have or speak w/ for some reason * He'd done a bunch of research, & found out that he couldn't get to the magic frog by himself -- nor w/o passing trials like he had on the island * Priestess also knew abt this place, & told him the specific reasons he couldn't go alone & who he needed to bring w/ him: ppl who loved him deeply; the more he brought, the easier it would be for everyone involved * Noble glanced at Commoner, but didn't show any more reaction than that, & said to the group itself that if it was just a matter of bringing multiple ppl then he'd take the ones gathered here since they'd proven themselves to be capable * Counselor somehow got overlooked or managed to decline or smth, but Noble succeeded in bringing Commoner & Priestess to join his quest for a magic frog * The quest starts w/ an entrance to a cave that can only be opened if ppl who love the quest-taker (aka Noble, in this case) hold magic items for a set amount of time (maybe until the door is open & the object of their love is on the other side? Maybe there's a mechanism to hold it open on the other side once the quest-taker is there?) * Noble puts his hand on the door & the others grab their items; Commoner is immediately drained of strength, feeling the magic take effect * Commoner sways & collapses w/ the pressure of the magic, while Priestess is basically unaffected * Priestess goes over to his side as soon as she's able, worried over him * Commoner smiles a pained, bittersweet smile bc he's glad that he could help his Noble but he hopes his true feelings weren't found out & this love is just mistaken as "servile devotion" or smth bc he knows he & Noble live in different worlds & can't be together even if there was some chance of Noble liking him back * Noble does look at him w/ a thoughtful & exasperated expression, smth that says "this wouldn't be so hard on him if he'd just tell me how he actually feels" or maybe "even if he loves me, is it really necessary for him to go this far" or smth along those lines -- like he strongly suspects Commoner's true feelings but wants to hear him say it himself or smth * There are a few more trials, each taking a toll on Commoner & barely affecting Priestess at all & not even touching Noble * I woke up some 3 trials into the dungeon I also made some notes on how I would continue the story if I kept writing past the point where I woke up, pulling from other things I vaguely remember and things I think would be fitting, but copying that over here would be spoilers if I ever do write this story properly. So I'll just leave it at the time I wake up for now. Until next I wander.
