My name was Kavah. I was the younger brother of a straight-laced athlete many knew as Jen. She and I had a secret though. We both were able to use minor magic. That info will come in to play later. I was resting on my bed. I couldn't sleep worth a damn. Insomnia had always been my enemy. As I closed my eyes again I heard the soft jingle of a bell and skilled. "Lucien?" I asked quietly. "Heh how'd you know?" He asked me as I felt him flop beside me on the bed. "You're the only feline I know who willingly wears a bell." I remarked. He placed a hand on my forehead and I could practically hear him grimace. "I'm probably the only one you know who actually worries over you too. That damn fever is back." I opened my eyes and looked his expression over. His golden feline eyes clearly were worried. It always surprised me how much he cared. It was a strange feeling for someone other than Jen to care about me. Even someone inhuman. "Lucien… it's not a normal fever…" I whispered and placed my hand on his cheek. "Are you in heat?" He asked promptly and I felt my eyes widen in embarrassment. "That isn't it either!" I exclaimed before coughing a bit, "It's my powers. I have to use my magic so much these days that it causes these fevers." Lucien nodded, seeming to understand. His black feline ears twitched a bit and he licked my cheek. "Well if it were a 'heat' I could've helped you with it. Okay?" I sat up and looked away, "The men in my species don't go through that you strange cat." Lucien chuckled, "Yeah but it's fun to tease you." I shook my head and we bantered for a bit. He did steal an actual kiss from me. Damn near giving me a heart attack in the process. I brushed it off and we continued talking. Outside his extra flirtiness, that night was like any other. I eventually fell asleep and began to remember back to when it started between us. Our strange friendship. The weird dependence we had on one another. My sister and I were orphans. We lost our parents when I was only five. My sister, being eighteen, began working on top of school. That way no one could take me, or our cat, away from her. We'd be able to keep the part of our family we had left. When I was about to turn fifteen, finally able to get a job, my sister and I felt a powerful blast of energy through our small apartment. The next thing we knew… we were in a field. Our cat wasn't anywhere in sight. Nothing was familiar. A teenage boy, with black feline ears and a black feline tail, laid near us. He trembled where he was. He had pants and a tank top but the winds were cold. I removed my jacket and covered him as my sister looked around us. This just didn't feel right. "Kavah, see if that kid knows anything." She told me as I nodded. I gently woke him. The teenager looked to be a couple years younger than me. When he opened his eyes I felt entranced. Those golden feline eyes felt too familiar. "Lucien?" I whispered. "Kavah… what's going on?" He said before realizing how human he looked. He quickly threw on the jacket I'd laid on him and looked around us. His ears twitched as he sniffed the air.  I gulped quietly, realizing my cat had just become a humanoid. "We… we don't know either…" Lucien sniffed the air a couple more times and he smiled a sad smile. "I'm home… it's my old home…" Jen came over and noticed Lucien. She saw the tears falling from his eyes as he smiled.  "Jen… this is Lucien. Our Lucien." I told her, still trying to wrap my brain around it myself. "Apparently wherever we are… is where he's from." Lucien wiped some tears away only for more to fall. I pulled him to me and he cried quietly against my shoulder.  "We should find shelter for now." Jen told me and gently ran her fingers over Lucien's head. "Maybe we can find more about you here." Lucien nodded as I got to my feet, pulling him up with me. We walked for some time, Jen leading us the whole way. I awoke from the memory and saw Lucien had been resting next to me. He was completely asleep. I smiled weakly at him and closed my eyes again. It had been ten years since then. We found out about his old family, his birth family, and they were wonderful people. We also learned where we were. Another world entirely. We people often had some animal trait or another. Those like my sister and I were uncommon. Though, we also learned of our magic. My sister could heighten her physical abilities and senses if she wanted. It used to be very taxing on her but she got the hang of it pretty quick. I could commune with the dead and see beyond the veil. I could also manipulate the psycho-kinetic energy around me. It was heavily taxing on me but not as much as it used to be. My ability was rare, even for this world. It helped us have the funds we needed for our home. Lucien worked mainly as my bodyguard. His choice so he could stay close to us. Jen was working in the local equivalent to a police force. Helping take care of the town that took us in. In all honesty, we never really thought about going back to our world. We had nothing left there. We had everything here. ((I awoke after that))
