I was outside the college with Mat. For some god forsaken reason he was starting all over again - despite being in education for five years and already having a masters degree - he now wanted to become a doctor instead. As I walked towards the college, I saw his mum waiting for him. She took me to the side and said, "from one mother to another, I'm going to give you some advice. You really need to get those kids outdoors more! Stop them playing on those ghastly electronics!" I was shocked by her bluntness. "Bitch!" I remember thinking.
