Indecision in a diner

I was at a diner in Portland, Oregon (no idea how I knew I was there, I don’t live anywhere near there). I was there with a bunch of people I knew (like the school trip to NYC), and I was sitting at a table with 2 of my friends. The waiter was taking a really long time to get to my table—he brought the table next to us their food before he even took our order. When he finally got to us, both of my friends ordered quickly, but I couldn’t decide on what to order. I kept flipping through the menu, but every time I asked for something, either they didn’t have it, or it wasn’t what I thought it was (I asked for a honey waffle, but apparently the picture I was looking at was actually of a piece of toast). There were also some 18th-century clothes on the menu (?) and I ordered a pair of stays and he left, but then I realized I still needed to eat. I tried to call him back, but he said he needed to get to another table. One of my friends pointed to a mural over the counter, of a man sitting on the roof of a house fishing in the sky. She read from the menu that it had been painted by the diner’s customers, and every year they paint a new one over it. She said that that was amazing because the average diner customer isn’t that good at art. I told her the diner near my middle school also had a tradition of painting murals, but instead of painting over it every year, they just chose a new spot. My middle school art class got to paint it one year. My other friend passed me a menu and told me to choose quick before the waiter got back. I started flipping through, but instead of just a few clothes items on the menu, it was full of them. Entire pages were taken up showing gorgeous robes a la francaise, and I wanted to buy one, but I checked my wallet and I only had $44. The waiter finally came over. I realized that what I had been looking at was a clothes catalogue and not the menu, and grabbed the actual menu from across the table. I wanted to order quickly so he wouldn’t leave again, so I just ordered 2 random things.
