Back on the road

"you gonna ride in the back again?" I ask as we approach the pickup truck to continue "or you wanna--" "I wanna long walk!" he says, after a second I realize he's referencing an earlier conversation, he means he wants to ride up front with me and talk, like 'long walks on the beach.' "Sweet!" I let us in, (put my groceries in the back? and) hop in the driver's seat, he hops in as well and I start 'er up. I fumble for a couple seconds connecting my phone via an 8mm cable, but as I'm starting my music I realize he doesn't want it on, he wants to talk. Otherwise he'd be in the back continuing his nap. I think maybe I do turn the music on but lower the volume significantly. Within minutes I realize he's stopped responding, he's dozed off anyway. Hmm, I'm rather disappointed, but okay. I raise the volume on my music some, probably too much at first, then adjust it down a bit again. I don't wanna wake him. But after a minute he says with indignance "so you're just gonna play your music even though I'm here hangin out?" "You were sleeping," I quickly counter, probably even quicker than without missing a beat, I'm a bit annoyed myself. He doth protest, but this time I straight up interrupt him, "you were sleeping!" I think he's Meagh now, I think it felt like the kind of brief intimate bickering you'd have with a partner, in fact I don't even know who that guy was. Earlier, when we were in the store, it was my mom I was with. She was ordering an ice cream sandwich, and I felt I was supposed to get one too. I asked a question I don't recall and got an answer I didn't want, I guess they don't have anything for me. Thanks anyway mom.. I wander back over as she's finishing her order, she must have read the disappointment on my face because she asks something like "isn't this vegan and stuff?" and the lady reassures her it is. "Ah so this is vegan and gluten free?" I chime in. "Yep" she replies with a bit of reluctance, which I interpret not as uncertainty but as maybe slight embarrassment low-key condescension for my pickiness. In any case I believe her, and I'm happy to get some ice cream. Outside the store, not sure if it's before or after. I'm trying to find the name of the place, it looks abandoned from the outside, in fact a lot of this strip mall does. I finally spot a sign, it's an unrecognizable word like "stidit" or something, with a kinda cute simplistic logo, I remember the t cross segued into the i dot. I try to take a pic, or remember. I get the sense someone will appreciate this, maybe someone I know is familiar with the place? After the mini argument in the truck, we're watching an Adventure Time episode. Finn(?) and Jake are also strangely bickering, I remember thinking "this is weird, this isn't the compassionate and honest type of communication they always strive for in this show. Was my bias just influencing how I saw it before?"
