I was working for a family business as some sort of consultant. I started having conversations with the business owner’s mother. One day I told her about how I was reading old Greek stories. One of the stories was about a Greek island city that relies on the presence of powerful neighbors to deter attackers, and never developed its own system of defense. At some point the business started to suffer due to bad decisions by some family members.
