I was younger. We were returning to practice after a break. Perhaps, it seemed, we were returning after a long break from a coronavirus quarantine. It also seemed like we just finished Christmas break. We were running inside, like a loop around an athletic facility, but the facility was mostly empty. Some basketball players were at practice on the other side of the facility. I remember we spent a lot of time stretching and getting warmed up. I was wondering if the others were going to do things like striders (in my mind I was like “ are we really doing all the warm up stuff at this point?”), but yeah, everyone did them, so I did them too. Charlie was sort of setting the example. Finally, we all got lined up for the run. This was just a practice run, but we all lined up like we were going for a race. Someone sorted us so we were lined up boy girl boy girl. Then we started. I ran very fast from the start and immediately left everyone but Charlie behind. I felt amazing. Weightless. I ran without fatigue, or fear of fatigue. I keep dropping little bursts of speed, but then maintaining the new pace, like when I was in tip top condition. For some reason I was aware that we were only running like 4 miles, so in my mind this was just like a pure fun run, like play. I felt a sense of serenity and profound joy at the same time.
