Lonely Patton

I’ve been assigned as a sort of aide-de-camp to general George Patton, however it seems we are not at war at the moment. He seems to be semi-retired, or at best not on any sort of active duty, and spends his time in an office that resembles a judges’s chambers. No one comes to visit him and he is in a foul mood much of the time. At some point a group of athletes who have just competed in the Winter Olympics arrive to meet the general and be congratulated for their achievements. The general is late to meet with them which feels extremely disrespectful and I am not happy about it. I go to talk with them myself and find them in a depressed mood. None of them won their event. They are now on some kind of tour to talk about their experiences and give the public a chance to meet them. I try to get them talking in an effort to open up a bit. I tell them about my own failure to qualify for the summer Olympics in the 5000 meter run. Suddenly there is a loud banging sound. I wake up and immediately wonder if the banging sound was real or something from the dream, which is more than a little frightening because it’s 3:00 a.m., and my whole family is asleep. I lay in bed listening to hear if the banging sound happens again IRL. It’s been about 30 min since I woke up and started typing this and I haven’t heard a thing which is a relief.
