We had all gone on a family day out to Crealy Adventure Park, only it had all changed and I didn’t recognise anything anymore. My sons wanted to go on this big water slide, so I went on it with them. It was fun, so we rode it a few times. But on the last go, it had slowed right down and they were playing this German music and we were stuck behind a guy and his baby, who kept teaching his baby son German. My mum then appeared beside us, as we were travelling along the big water tube, and she seemed really impressed that this baby couple speak German (having lived in Germany herself and still unable to say anything but ‘beer’ 😂) Once we got past baby and father, the slide picked up speed and we were whizzing along and I experienced a few moments of lucidity when it felt really real and I had a real adrenaline rush. After the slide ride, Alex wanted to do on these Go-Karts but they were apparently only for 1-18month olds. “Sorry, Alex. You can’t go on those ones. You’re too old.” I told him. I then caught some teenagers riding around on them and huffed. Instead, Alex jumped into a peddle car, but he found it too tricky to peddle. Despite my knees coming up to my knees, I helped him out and rode it down this stony track. I noticed that my husband wasn’t really getting involved during our supposed ‘family’ day out, so I was getting more and more riled up. He had then decided to do a disappearing act with the boys and for ages I couldn’t find them. “What are you doing??” I yelled, when I eventually found them all, in their coats, ready to go. “I’m staying with a friend for a few days and I’m taking the boys!” He said. “No, you aren’t!” I replied, “we are having a nice family day put!” I started undoing their coats and then we headed for this huge tree. The boys both climbed up it, but it didn’t look very safe at all, so I climbed up with them. “I don’t like this, it doesn’t look safe!” I warned. “Don’t be so silly!” My mother-in-law tutted, appearing out of nowhere (why does she always do that?!). A bad feeling formed in the pit of my stomach when my son reached for a branch that couldn’t hold his weight and fell from a great height, smashing his little head on the ground. I screamed in terror and then shouted “I fucking told you it wasn’t safe!” Right into my mother-in-law’s face. Before I could put my feet on the ground, the paramedics had come and whisked him off. They didn’t even tell me what hospital he had been taken too and I was growing more and more hysteric as time passed by. I kept checking my phone and the news, but nothing. It was like a living hell. “I’m going to sue Crealy!” I ranted. “But can we go on another ride?” My other son, Maxi, asked. I didn’t have to yell at him, I just gave him a look and he hung his head in shame. Hours passed by and still nothing. I had checked at the Crealy help desk, but no one had heard about such accident and all they wanted to do was sit around, and have a natter over a cup of tea and a biscuit. My mum decided to take me to the local hospital to try to get some answers there, but that was yet again a fruitless exercise as no one had even heard of my son. I remember running in and out of various rooms, looking for him. I was at my wits end and had big fat tears rolling down my face. I sat in this waiting room and this lady with teeny tiny baby arms kept wiping my streaming nose with a hanky. “Thank you.” I whispered quietly. I then went into what looked like a child’s bedroom and there were random Barbies everywhere, all with the same braided hairstyle. I was packing them away in boxes. Anything to keep my mind busy and not thinking about the terror that waits ahead. I then look at my phone again, to see that I have received a ton of messages. I begin to feel hope once again, but am met with disappointment as none of these messages bear any resemblance to what happened at Crealy. I then questioned if this was a dream ... nothing felt right. I tested my doubts by seeing if I could turn the light on and off and finding out that I wasn’t able to. “This is a dream...” I gasped. “Get me the fuck out of here!” I then woke up (but still in my dream) to find Alex was okay, albeit, a little bruised and I felt this enormous sense of relief and happiness rush over me. Next scene; I had gone up to my daughters room (her room is an attic conversion) and it stank of cigarettes. “You’ve been smoking cigarettes!” I ranted. She denied it at first, but then admitted it. “Don’t smoke in here again. It’s a fire hazard!” I yelled and then stormed off.
