I get a text from someone telling me that Sandy has apparently died. I feel lightheaded as I think about how my mom will handle this and immediately go into denial. I text her, “Just wanted to check in on you!” and wait for a response. Soon, someone starts FaceTiming me from her number. I’m relieved, but confused when I answer the call and am greeted by Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters.
