Fighting rock monsters

I was on the side of a mountain that was covered in ash. I felt myself turning into a rock monster but willed myself to stay human. Then I had to track back down the mountain side and defeat rock monsters along the way. The monsters were people who couldn't resist the change brought on by the mountain. The monsters were varrying in shape and difficulty to defeat and they turned to ash once I defeated them. I don't remember the details of the battles but I vividly remember sliding down patches of ash covered mountains and getting more and more covered in it as I defeated monsters. As I approached the bottom I saw a lake of crystal clear water and got very excited at the prospect of getting clean. Then I woke up.
