I had an unpleasant dream during which I received tickets for two DUIs. I started making excuses to the police and others about what happened, about how I wasn’t really that drunk, or how I hadn’t been driving very far, so it really wasn’t a problem. The kind of things that used to make me irritated to hear when I was a prosecutor and had a DUI case. It was even more disconcerting because in the dream I was also still working as a prosecutor and I knew the police officers professionally. I remember being in a suit and tie in the dream. I also remember encountering several of my colleagues from the DA’s office and having awkward conversations with them where I tried to make excuses. They were clearly making an uncomfortable effort to be polite about the matter. I was extremely uncomfortable about what was happening, and I was was so upset with myself. I think I also remember that I failed to appear in court for one or both of the tickets and I was very concerned about my job. I was VERY relieved to wake up and realize this had all been a dream.
